I THINK WENGER AND ARSENAL CAME WITH A GAME PLAN TO STIFLE MAN CITY’s PASSING GAME.BUT,THEY WERE NOT SURE HOW TO DO IT!THEY TRIED ...CLOSING THEM DOWN,AND CHALLENGING FOR SECOND BALLS BUT CITY PROVED TOO PHYSICAL FOR THEM.SO ARSENAL QUICKLY RESORTED TO SITTING BACK TOO EARLY!WHEN THEY NOTICED THAT CITY DID NOT HAVE THEIR GOOD PASSING GAME EITHER,...THEY TRIED TO PLAY A HIGH LINE IN DEFENCE,TO SQUEEZE CITY BACKWARDS IN HOPE THAT THE MISTAKES WOULD BE MADE IN MIDFIELD OR CITY’s HALF(And got caught out by SERGIO’s goal)FROM THEN ON,IT WAS PANIC STATIONS-POOR BALL RETENTION AND POOR COLLECTIVE DETERMINATION.In the second half,ARSENAL TRIED TO RAISE THE TEMPO,BUT FOUND THEIR SKILL OR FITNESS LEVELS WERE NOT ABLE TO MATCH,SO MORE MISTAKES WERE MADE!LACKING DIRECTION, CREATIVITY AND LEADERSHIP...It was only a matter of time, for ARSENAL TO CRUMBLE AGAIN!SO THEY LOST...
ARSENAL vs SPURS(2-0)Tactical review Austin4sports style
How ARSENAL beat ...SPURS (2-0)
First point# Mauricio deployed Sanchez(brilliant defender)Deir and Vertonghen(poor positional sense)at the back. And Wenger matched it with an on the ground effect of three front runners:Ozil,Lacazette and Sanchez. Now this made it difficult for Spurs to build their attack from the back(with rhythm)Consequently, often Spurs threw ...the ball up into Arsenal territory where they lacked enough aerial presence! So the ball kept coming back despite Mauricio’s strategy attempt to keep more possession.
Second point#Another thing that did not work well for Tottenham was the combination between Trippier and Sissoko. The two seemed to be on two different slide sheets!Dembele was supposed to create a safe haven for spurs players to reach out to,when in difficulty(Because he is usually strong in possession, and opponents learn to back off him, when he holds the ball)And Sissoko was supposed to run at Arsenal’s midfield and defence ...linking up with Trippier(who would provide crosses...for Ali an Kane)This did not work properly.Ali and Kane were slow at the races today!Another reason that formulae did not work!
Third point# As the pic shows above, there was a wide channel on either of the narrow back three of Spurs. And Wenger quickly identified them as weak areas!
Most of Arsenal’s attacks found access through those paths;second and third balls that fell into Arsenal hands turned into potentially dangerous attacks because of that fatal weakness!
And finally, fourth point#Spurs could have rode their luck, for longer. And possibly ended the game in a draw!(As most pundits predicted...)but for three catastrophic calls from the official.(1)The tackle on Sanchez was not a foul. And the Chilean did not refute the bad call.(2)The subsequent spot kick met with a good header from Mustafi who was offside.(3)As the pic shows;lacazzette was offside with his shoulder and arm.
